Baby is now the size of a large carrot

Welcome to Week 21. You are now just over halfway through your pregnancy, and your baby is growing bigger, stronger, and more active every day. Baby movements become more noticeable and pregnancy often feels more established. Your baby is continuing to develop important body systems while practicing skills that will be needed after birth. This is often a time when excitement begins to outweigh uncertainty.

Frequently asked questions

Should I feel the baby every day now?

Most mothers are feeling movements regularly by this stage, although patterns are not yet as consistent as they will be later.

Is heartburn normal?

Yes. Heartburn becomes increasingly common as pregnancy progresses, due to hormonal changes and the growing uterus.

Can my baby hear music?

Your baby can hear some sounds, although they are softened and muffled inside the womb.

Is it normal to feel emotional about my changing body?

Absolutely. Pregnancy brings major physical and emotional changes. Both loving and struggling with those changes are completely normal.
